Bride Hard is about a wedding that gets held hostage by a mercenary group… but, handy news, the maid of honor is a secret agent. It stars Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, but it doesn’t sound like any of that Pitch Perfect goodwill has carried over to this one. Da’Vine Joy Randolph is in it, but wisely did not draw attention to that fact by attending the premiere. She shot it in 2023, before she won the Oscar for The Holdovers in 2024, and I could see her hoping maybe it would be buried forever. Alas. The AP says, “It has the kind of lazy pacing you’d usually find on the Hallmark Channel and a level of acting not much better than porn.” The Guardian says, “It’s a total disaster, a tedious and maddeningly laugh-free endurance test that’s also made without a shred of competence. I[…] The only amusing moment is unintentional, as a character lies next to some Fiji water bottles while another digs into a bag of Lay’s chips before the camera glides past a selection of elf beauty products, swiftly explaining where some of the budget came from …” Variety was MUCH nicer but in the subhead they referred to it as “suitable for a girls’ night out,” which I find really annoying, like when women hit the town together they would ONLY watch a movie like this!!! Also, not men, never!!!!!

Anyway. It looks awful; I would absolutely watch this on a plane, and honestly, will probably sit through it on streaming for Drinks With Broads, if science demands it. (Science always demands it.)
