I am distressed to report that none of the Black Panther trio that landed a cover** — Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, and Lupita Nyong’o — attended this party. Angela may have been shooting 911, Danai possibly was off with The Walking Dead, and IMDb lists Lupita as “filming” the last Star Wars installment, although for her that’s only voice work, so who knows. She could just be on a beach somewhere texting Meghan Markle her congrats. I’m sad, though, because they are the three whose fashion shenanigans I most greatly anticipated, and I feel like Angela deserved a moment of fabulousness after that bizarre cover shot made her look like a lush at an office party.
** Okay, thanks to the commenter that alerted me to Jameela Jamil’s Instagram, which shows that Angela did appear on-stage to speak. So she just skipped the red carpet, and only Getty had her on-stage and backstage? I feel better that I didn’t lose my mind and just not SEE her photos, but I KNEW that she’d turn up the moment I went to bed. Here:
