I feel confident that at some point in my non-storied career, I made a joke that Flag Day was going to be the next all-star rom-com based on a comedy, a la Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve or Mother’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall (RIP) in his sleep. Instead, it’s directed by Sean Penn, presumably fully conscious, and I do not think it is actually about a minor non-bank holiday. (I think Sean Penn plays a charismatic conman and it’s bad for the women in his life.) Having said that, both of these women would probably welcome a little jaunt in a breezy, large-cast plane movie and judging from their looks at this event, they’d both acquit themselves at the press events.
