I love when translations of a movie’s title are quite different. My brain keeps trying to process this as Irrelevant, but of course it’s Hurlevant, which means “howling wind” and which has once before served as the French title of a Wuthering Heights adaptation.

Complete sidebar: Wikipedia told me that MTV did a very poorly received adaptation in 2003, which starred a TOTAL who’s-who of actors of that era and absolutely also did not portray Heathcliff as a man of color. Erika Christensen played Catherine — “Cate” — and perennial Hey, It’s That Guy Mike Vogel was Heath(cliff), and both of them sang various Jim Steinman-penned songs on the concept album (!), two of which were later recorded by Meat Loaf for one of his Bat out of Hell albums. Christopher Masterson of the Scientology Mastersons was also in it, as was a young upstart named “Katherine M. Heigl” and, because MTV was nothing if not cross-promotional, Aimee “The Osbournes” Osbourne. Apparently the novel inspired Steinman to write “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now,” which is a juicy bit of trivia too (also please treat yourself to the music video in that post).

But wait! In 2015, Lifetime got in the game with Wuthering High, starring no one you know except for an older gentleman by the name of… James Caan. I feel like it’s my duty to see if I can watch these and report back.
