Finally, someone is trying to resurrect the moribund Calvin Klein high-fashion brand: Its first-ever female creative director, Veronica Leoni — she’s worked at Jil Sander, The Row, and Phoebe Philo — sent a collection of workwear down the catwalk that she said was meant to “erase whatever came between her and Klein’s last day on the job, taking over as if he’d just stopped working and handed her the keys to the kingdom.” To be clear, that was all the way back in 2003. So that handwaves Francisco Costa’s tenure in addition to Raf Simons’s failed stint (it’s been dormant since he left in 2018). That’s quite a statement. Was it worth it? This was extremely simple, to the point of lacking any specialness at all. There’s nothing to get excited about, except MAYBE one gigantic nubbly coat and some flowier pieces that could work on the right celebrity, and even that is a stretch. So yes, not inept, hooray, but neither did it make me heave a sigh and say, “I missed this show.”
