Book of Clarence is a movie in which LaKeith Stanfield plays a man in 33 A.D. who sees Jesus’s rise to popularity and decides to present himself as another Messiah, in the hopes that it’ll rescue him from debt. It sounds kind of like a mix of American Fiction and Life of Brian, though milder than the latter, and with more earnest respect for the more earnest Biblical epics. We shall see! The cast includes Alfre Woodard as Mother Mary, Teyana Taylor as Mary Magdalene, James McAvoy as Pontius Pilate, and the (sadly absent) Benadryl Coldmedicine as a character named Benjamin. No idea what to make of it, but a LOT of people came to party in its honor, and that’s a win.
