Duchess Kate turned out to be right on-point with her white gown: Lots of the big stars and winners of the night went with the basic neutrals of black and white, with varying degrees of success, on a scale from… oh, Blanchett or Davis to Weisz, I’d say.

As Oscar fortunes go, Rachel Weisz took the Supporting Actress category over Regina King et al, and Olivia Colman upset Glenn Close, although the BAFTAs may generally tend to favor the hometown ladies. I am at least grateful to them for TRYING to add some shades of suspense to the Academy Awards proceedings.
