Thom Browne’s show was based on The Little Prince — Fashionista explains the proceedings for you here — which is a novella that on the surface is about a prince visiting a variety of planets, but whose themes are about friendship and love and loss. The themes really just seem like excuses for him to go completely bananas on a couple outfits, as he starts to on slide 3, and beyond that, they motivate the embellishments on the basic shapes and preferences that you’ll recognize from other shows. Which I guess… that’s what a theme is. My point here is that some of these outfits are more characters in this imaginary play than actual fashion people will wear, and the rest are things you’ll see and think, “Oh, okay, back to your regularly scheduled Janelle Monae programming.”
