Per Variety, “The Testament of Ann Lee is a speculative retelling of Lee’s life as one of the few female religious leaders of the 18th century and details the founding of the Shaker movement. Immigrating from England and originally settling in New York, the Shakers were known for their ecstatic behavior during worship, practicing celibacy and living simply in a communal fashion. Due to their abstinent lifestyle, the movement has since dwindled and there are now only three remaining members.” Actually — not to “well, actually” Variety — Shakers just got a new one. Until like a week ago, they only had two! (Technically, she’s still on probation.) (There are a LOT more Friends of Shakers, but being a Full Shaker has stringent life requirement.) (This concludes our sidebar about the Shakers, who have also made beautiful furniture.) Regardless, this sounds like an interesting project; who could have guessed from Mean Girls that Amanda Seyfried’s CV would turn out so varied? No offense to Mean Girls. I will note that the film’s screening appears to have taken place in the BLAZING sun.
Related, and to the point of our headline here: Julia Roberts wore this look over the weekend. Amanda asked if she could borrow it. Their shared stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, coordinated. I don’t know if Amanda just really loved that look, or if something happened to her photo-call ensemble, or if they all just thought it would be fun. I do sort of love the idea of celebs randomly borrowing clothes from each other during film festivals. Let’s really mix it up!
