Previously on Tracee Ellis Ross’s Style Speed Bump, we had horribly tinted mesh tops and Leg Bags. I’m thrilled to report that she appears to be wearing actual pants today, and while I am not a lover of logos, I’m just SO pleased these are not mosquito tents. My bar is low!
I don’t dislike it in theory, but the shorts are very blocky. Would they look better as pants? Or a pencil skirt? This all feels like she’s launching a Sears collection, and there would be nothing wrong with that if these pieces actually cost Sears prices, but they surely did not. This is cheery, though:
Would this look be better if they’d figured out a way to wrestle a belt into the equation? I just got some pants from Banana Republic that have an elastic waist — hers have that similar look — and they bunch up weirdly and then billow out around my pelvis. The trickle-down effect of this makes the pants unworkable, but with a skirt I feel like you could fix a LOT just by kind of… cinching it. Oh my God, suddenly I’m that Adam Sandler Gap sketch from SNL in the ’90s. CINCH IT.
