This show was described by WWD as feeling like a greatest hits, of sorts, as Gurung sought to honor his American life and also the roots in Nepal that he’s missed during Covid. And what a good time for him to assert himself that way: A lot of the typical Fashion Week stalwarts are missing. Calvin Klein is MIA (is that brand totally dead?). Zac Posen closed up shop. I can’t tell if Oscar de la Renta showed anything. The Rebeccas Taylor and Minkoff haven’t been around in awhile; ditto Betsey Johnson. Where is Ralph Lauren? And of course Marc Jacobs used to close the week, but he hasn’t shown in a while. Tom Ford swept in and booked the anchor spot this season, but then cancelled his show a month ago due to a Covid outbreak in his Los Angeles workrooms. So that leaves Kors, Siriano, Herrera, and Prabal — with a welcome return from Jason Wu this season — as the marquee tentpoles.
