Our two purple-clad winners were opposites: one slam-dunk, and one total surprise. My theory on Game of Thrones is that they way over-submitted for the Emmys — which I understand, but also, I think vote-splitting is real, and I think having four nominees in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama category may well have been the reason Julia Garner from Ozark snuck in there. I’ve heard she’s great on that show, though, and I honestly wouldn’t have given the win to anyone from GoT except for Gwen Christie, so it shook out nicely. And who can argue with the unfettered joy of the underdog snagging the trophy?
