I feel like nobody wants to make any decisions anymore, so W Magazine’s Best Performances issue featured a whopping THIRTY FOUR cover subjects (obviously most of them digital, if not all; I’ve lost track of who still publishes tangible issues anymore). For comparison, last year it was 16. Doubling it is… really something, and several of them, I don’t even know what performance was supposed to be great, because many of the movies didn’t really land. Adria Arjona is there for Splitsville. Jeremy Strong? Deliver Me From Nowhere, the Springsteen movie nobody saw. Greta Lee is there for something called Late Fame that isn’t even widely out yet, so why is she here for THIS year’s issue?
The photos are WILD, also. Naturally we have Sydney Sweeney looking like a nude bombshell. But there’s also Jacob Elordi in a parking lot, Emma Stone looking like a serial-killing doll, Renate Reinsve shoveling pasta into her mouth, lots of imitation Polaroids, some folks like Amanda Seyfried shot from so far away they might as well be in another magazine, and of course Jeremy Strong dressed as a bunny and weeping blood. Naturally.
We didn’t get all of these folks at the party, and the pictures feel cramped and chaotic, because this one seems to eschew a typical step-and-repeat. Some of these folks, we saw at other pre-parties; if a person is missing and you know they were present, that may be why.
