This is actually Sean McGirr’s second effort since taking over Alexander McQueen, but the first one where he had the usual amount of time leading up to it. Booth Moore writes that his debut was very badly received, but this one seemed to go down a lot easier; if you are a fashionphile (I am not), the reference is, per Moore, to a 1994 McQueen collection called “Banshee,” an immersion into the house archives that he didn’t have time to do before now. I can definitely see brand devotee Cate Blanchett being drawn to a lot of it: the expansive and/or ruffly collars, the jackets, the general look like you’re a sexy high-class pirate. I would also put Olivia Rodrigo in some of the dresses, like slide 18, with her chunky boots that she loves.
