Have y’all seen the preview for this movie? It does not look entirely good, I am sorry to say:
It kind of feels like a very, very long-shot effort on the part of the 50 Shades PR crew that actually paid off, and they’re all looking at each other like, “I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY WENT FOR THIS.” Having said that, obviously, I appreciate any movie that invests in the idea that women over 40 have an inner life (much less a sex life) and also I like all these actresses (they’re clearly damn good at their jobs); additionally, this is going to be an ideal movie to watch on a plane, and I’m grateful to any production that allows me to make jokes about which film is going to come next in the line of New Year’s Eve/Mother’s Day/Game Night/Book Club. I’m telling you: Arbor Day is going to be an amazing movie about an arborist who is successful at her job but wilting in love (Jessica Alba) and who finds leafy romance with a manic-pixie-dream-man who is living in the rare tree she’s trying to study (Dax Shepard). Also MAYBE I laughed a few times watching this trailer. Okay, maybe now I’m totally in for this movie. I’m not entirely sure how that happened. Mondays!
