This would have been our ten-year flashback post, run in anticipation of the Gala itself. Sigh. The theme for the 2010 Met Gala was “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity,” and per Wikipedia, that means, “It explored the changing image of the modern woman from the 1890s to the 1940s. […] The goal was to create a “time machine” of the past to present… [T]he exhibition showcases the revolution of style that symbolizes women’s emancipation in social, political, and sexual aspects.” My big question, given all that, is whether Lenny Kravitz performed his “American Woman” cover at the party. That’s the important takeaway from all this, right? It is.

Oh, and if you’re wondering whether we skipped the 2008 and 2009 Met Galas, we did not. We had done flashback posts for those already — in the moment — and I will embed those galleries here for you to peruse.

Don’t sleep on those. You’ll want to relive Madonna’s headpiece, at least.
