Matthieu Blazy, formerly of Bottega Veneta, is taking over at Chanel this spring — meaning this is the last of the interim collections between Virginie Viard’s vision and whatever Blazy brings to the mood board. Per Elle, “The show was preceded by a short documentary—directed by Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai in honor of 110 years of Chanel couture—in which Chanel favorites like Naomi Campbell and Marion Cotillard attest to the form’s status as a work of art amid behind-the-scenes footage of the petites mains crafting the collection.” To me, that translates to, “WE’RE STILL RELEVANT, WE SWEAR!!! HANG IN THERE.”

As usual, I think much of this is hideous, but in the rare spirit of positivity, I spotlighted above a couple of the outfits that I think could be trimmed and tucked into something decent. That red, for example… put that on Marion Cotillard with a matching lip, and we’d probably like it well enough (also that model reminds me of Daisy Ridley, so maybe… same note applies). I could see Julianne Moore in the blue. Keira Knightley would probably enjoy the middle one, although I am not into the sheer bolero. Jenna Ortega could do something with the fourth one, and the last… Gabrielle Union, in a moment of minimalism?
