Given that — as you may have heard — people are currently not really leaving the house, it feels like an optimal time to check out recent fashion shows we might have missed, or throw it back to early collections of interest from some of today’s big names. I’d also like to thank the reader on Twitter who suggested we look at the runway shows for up-and-coming Black designers, which inspired me to start this new feature with Christopher John Rogers today.

Christopher John Rogers — whose work you may have seen in the Tracee Ellis Ross retrospective earlier today —  won the 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award at only 25, and his client list thus far has already included (in addition to TER) Lizzo, Rihanna, Cardi B, and Michelle Obama. This is a great review of his Fall/Winter 2020 collection by Robin Givhan, and I’m going to turn my (much much much) less skilled eyes to his most recent collection here. Will it be bittersweet to play fantasy stylist right now? I guess we’re going to find out.
