Diana Rigg was indelible in The Avengers, and chilling in Game of Thrones, and brilliant in everything. But I first loved her in The Great Muppet Caper as Lady Holiday, followed by her role as Miss Hardbroom in the first Worst Witch adaptation (which also starred Fairuza Balk, Tim Curry, Charlotte Rae). She was haughty, divine brilliance, and as Mrs. Emma Peel, she was fiercely intelligent and fabulous — and I felt like that was all worth celebrating today. Why am I telling you this? In the words of Lady Holiday herself, “It’s plot exposition. It has to go somewhere.”
