This year marks the tenth anniversary of The Americans premiering, so the Paley Center did a panel discussion for the show that tragically did not include my personal MVP, Alison Wright/Martha, whose story was the saddest to me. Very few of the cast actually went, in fact. But we did get Keri, in the kind of overly fussy blouse that Elizabeth Jennings could AND WOULD turn into a murder weapon. (Matthew Rhys was also there, looking exactly as Matthew Rhys does when he’s sporting a mustache — I assume it’s for Perry Mason — and Noah Emmerich also attended, and now this is making me want to watch the last two episodes again.)
Right on cue with this Americans panel, and it’s likely this timing was not accidental, Keri Russell has a new Netflix series to promote. It’s called The Diplomat, and it SEEMS to involve her being appointed to an ambassadorship in the UK, and butting heads with her husband Rufus Sewell, also a diplomat (and potentially once THAT diplomat?). She’s probably pleased to be in a show that won’t put her in 80s wigs and glasses and Jordache. Anyway, this look from a nighttime talk show appearance is very much in the Keri Russell wheelhouse.
It’s all black, and it’s a hybrid of chic and confusing. Just the way she seems to like it.
