I can’t really tell what that dress is underneath — it has a whiff of those ’80s Princess Diana dresses coming out of Alessandra Rich lately, which I don’t love — but all is forgiven with the great boots and furry coat. I want to wrap myself in it forever. But, it’s also not really why we’re here. It’s sneaking us in the back door so that we can talk about what Kate wore on The Tonight Show this week:

The second slide is of her standing, so you can see it’s only sheer on the sides. But it’s a bold move to go on a chat show, where you know you’re sitting the whole time, and wear something expressly designed to look like a window when you do that. It’s even more pronounced on the fourth slide. I have to give her credit — she looks fabulous. It’s twinkly, SHE is twinkly, her hair is having one hell of a Pantene moment (I have to think it’s extensions, but still), and she is selling the shit out of Starry Leg Night over here. Do I LIKE the dress? No, not on its own merits. But we always say every dress has its context, and maybe, just maybe, this one managed to find its mate.
