Saltburn is Emerald Fennell’s followup to her Oscar-winning (for the screenplay) Promising Young Woman, and also features Carey Mulligan, in addition to Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi. Sidebar: Nothing against Jacob Elordi, who did what he did in The Kissing Booth exactly as it needed to be done. But if you’d told me after I saw those movies that Elordi would be in TWO hot Oscar prospects, much less in the same year, and e of which (Priscilla) involves him playing Elvis to critical acclaim under Sofia Coppola’s direction, I would have assumed you were trying to get me to lose all my money by betting on the future.

ANYWAY: Saltburn is about a prep-school kid in the aughts who becomes obsessed with his rich friend’s family and estate, and accordingly, perhaps, Emerald is dressed as the headmistress who wants the kids to think of her as a cool older sister and often looks the other way when they’re playing drinking games in their dorm rooms.

And then, like a velociraptor, she COMES ALIVE and can spit a little poison at you when you take things too far and yak all over the carpet in the entryway.
