The other side of the “Theme Dressing” coin is when someone seems to be picking outfits that are quite the opposite of their current project, and that feels like the case here with Elle and Margo’s Got Money Troubles. This is a very slick and professional suit, which I love on her and which we don’t see terribly often on Elle, and which does not scream “former college student who makes cash on OnlyFans out of desperation.” Not that Elle Fanning has to be concerned about being typecast; she’s already a seasoned veteran at the tender age of 28.
This next outfit would work if she were a seasoned veteran at the tender age of 82:
This is some real Queen Elizabeth II shit, great for hiking Balmoral’s moors with the Corgis and a sturdy stick and a kerchief, but extremely weird on a young California lass. At the very least, jettison the shoes, and then we can talk.
