I had to laugh at the WWD write-up: “[Virginie Viard’s] way of concocting collections is instinctive: no crisp storytelling or specific references here.” It SOUNDS like a compliment, but is it? I land in the middle with this collection, myself. There are some dresses here that will be nice on Margot Robbie when she’s out and about again, and other items that Marion Cotillard will wear that we will deeply lament. The usual. Viard herself says in that piece that she likes it when Chanel does things it’s done before, and while she’s ostensibly referring to the stagings of her shows, it works on several levels. Slide 20 (above) is when the first red-carpet dress pops up, and there are a couple afterwards that we’ll likely see.
