Nominee Amanda Seyfried definitely came to play in this massive red Armani, but she may not have the biggest gown in this post. That honor appears to go to Laverne Cox, the only human Christian Siriano dressed for the Oscars (that “human” distinction matters because he also made a frock for an Instagram-famous dog, for real).

It feels like we saw a lot of what I think of as the Old Guard — Valentino, Armani, Dior, McQueen, even a D&G. And thus, not much Siriano, which makes me sad because he meets a moment so beautifully. I am not actually sure if Laverne attended the Oscars; the shuffled order of the awards, plus organizing our posts during the ceremony, threw me off enough that I definitely didn’t get a sense of the audience. But she’s in Best Picture nominee Promising Young Woman and so her work was a part of the night. I honestly think people forget (or don’t know) she’s in that movie if they haven’t seen it, so I applaud her for letting herself bask in the moment of being part of a nominated movie and going HUGE even if she didn’t actually get a ride to Union Station.
The one thing that gets me here is her boob leaking out the side, especially because Christian noted it was one of his easiest fittings Maybe it’s just the way she’s leaning? Perhaps she’s aiming for maximum boob leakage. She posted a ton of pictures to her Instagram; this was the one that showed the dress’s shape the most clearly, but this one, for example, is way more fun:

She doesn’t look much like Leighton Meester to me in actual life, but in this photo she absolutely feels like a coppery Blair Waldorf — or rather, a coppery Blair Waldorf who stole a dress from Serena. I think her head deserved better than a holdover from the Boobs Legsly days.
