This photo is so funny. Toni Collette looks like the proud oldest cousin, while Kate Winslet is just embarrassed to have to be involved with this group shot, and Andrea Riseborough — who looks recognizable to me with her dark hair, again! — is just happy to be there and is very serene about the entire thing. FWIW, I think everyone here looks….you know, totally fine? Andrea’s dress is less exciting than it was when I thought it was covered in sequined bananas (IF ONLY), but she looks great in it. I feel like Toni Collette has worn that before, but it’s pleasantly winter-y and her belt bag will be…you know, convenient. And Kate Winslet truly, truly always looks EXACTLY the same. It’s almost comforting.
(This is the premiere of Winslet’s directorial debut, written by her son with Sam Mendes, which I will not watch because it will make me sad. It’s another of the Netflix slate of pictures that are getting a week-long theatrical debut to make them eligible for the Oscars before landing on streaming — a new trend that feels like it’s adhering to the letter if not the spirit of eligibility requirements.)
