My husband and I watched the originalĀ Tron the other night. I had never seen it — I think I was just a little bit too young. It is FASCINATING; it’s visually amazing, still, and so creative, and it makes NO SENSE, and both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner (!) are beautiful in it. I went and looked up some contemporaneous reviews afterwards. They’re almost all really positive — it must have been mind-blowing at the time — but one of them, which I can’t seem to find now, was basically like, “THRILLING! The plot is totally inexplicable but who cares!” I wish people still got to be creative and weird. ANYWAY, a thirdĀ Tron is coming out shortly. I’m pleased to report Jeff Bridges is still involved. I better watch Tron 2: Tronier! to make sure I’m all caught up.
And although Jeff Bridges didn’t come to this Paris event, and neither did co-star Gillian Anderson, this does already feel like it’s going to be a sartorially compelling press tour. All three of these people could believably be visiting from the future: Leto is obviously problematic and he looks like his own wax figure here but also I enjoy that we’ve got a man wearing a satin suit (!) and what seems like….a lot of scarves; Greta Lee looks like an incredibly chic Professional of the Future, like she’s working at the level above Men in Black (this was, in fact, shown on a male-presenting model on the runway); and JTS’s entire dress is MADE OF TECHNOLOGY! There’s like an old phone in there and a calculator and a battery (!) and a laptop fan, and a bunch of computer…things? It’s AMAZING, look:
It’s Schiaparelli and it’s PERFECT for this.
