Last night, Zendaya was honored at the InStyle Awards as a style star, and I cannot imagine a more apt choice: She and her stylist Law Roach might be having more fun than anyone out there right now, because Zendaya is a chameleon, and it feels like the two of them can take any impulse either of them has and turn it into something noteworthy. Only she could channel both David Bowie and Josephine Baker and have it work, much less any of the other decades and auras she’s embraced. This is not the first time she’s gone a little disco, but it’s still a different flavor — almost like the Pleasantville-esque girl from yesterday grew up into a kicky-as-hell nightclub singer. “We should stop living by the definitions other people give us,” she said in her speech, and she and Law might as well tattoo that on their arms.
