I always do these things chronologically but I am obviously opening with kissing, the best part of any wedding. (I was at a wedding this weekend and the officiant hesitated before, "you may now kiss the bride," and basically the entire guest list was like, "KISSSSSSS!" The happy couple obeyed.)

I seriously only just now noticed that the yellow detailing on Wills's jacket is, like, felted or embroidered or something. And I've looked at these about thirty thousand times. (Did I ever tell you about the time, when we were in the midst of writing The Royal We, that I literally found and corrected an error in the Wikipedia page about their wedding? A proud moment indeed, you guys.)

I also only just now realized I have no idea who the besuited man behind them is. Is that one of Wills's military mentor-type people? I know one of you will know.

You're next, Harry! (No pressure. You don't have to marry anyone if you don't want to. But if you want to enter into a marriage of convenience that won't be convenient at all with a crabby old American who wrote a book based loosely on your family, for maximum personal weirdness, I am right here.)

There's a lot of Royal Waving in this slideshow.

That dress is so pretty. And it's very weird to see her without her engagement ring on. I would have felt like I'd forgotten something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT all day long.

Sometimes people will ask us which of Kate's outfits is our favorite, and I have to just discard this from contention, because I find it so perfect that it basically shouldn't count. I do love it.

You know we love the Turn Back and Look Wistfully At the Life You're Leaving Behind Shot.

It is my favorite. We're getting another royal wedding in June -- Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is marrying Sofia on June 13 -- and I long for many a Poignant Backwards Glance. I hope you're practicing, Sofia! (I also hope everyone with the weirdest Wikipedia pages in all royal and royal-adjacent families is invited to this function, because mining those for bizarro tidbits is the most fun. Remember the woman who was ejected from Spain for being in thrall to Franco and wrote a book about talking to trees? MORE OF THAT PLEASE.)

I THINK that's Sarah Burton, fussing over her masterpiece -- yes?

I love many things about this, but one of them is the Floating Sea of Blurry Hats behind Kate's head.

This always feels very, "WHEEEEEE I can't believe we're actually pulling this off" to me.

JUST MAKE OUT -- wait, never mind. Sorry. Very inappropriate of me. House of God, and so on and so forth.

I enjoy how conspiratorial this is. "No, I told you she'd wear the rudest hat she owns. She's just like that."

HIDEOUS. CRAMPED. BORING.

Second verse, same as the first.

You may recognize this shot from the full length version of it that landed on the cover of People's awesome commemorative wedding issue which I may have kept FOR RESEARCH although I totally had decided to save it before the book even came into being. Guess I just busted myself there.

So giddy!

The weddings I attend really do suffer from a lack of carriages. Although a carriage at a wedding in Los Angeles would be ridiculous, so I guess the truth is that I do not attend nearly enough royal weddings. That is DEFINITELY true. Will one of you please wed the heir to even a minor principality and invite us? Thank you.

One for the People Gazing At Each Other master file. Perhaps the cover photo, even.

Oh, don't worry, Harry. I did not forget you.

These two do a LOT of waving. So much waving. Constant waving.

There should be less waving, more kissing. That's my vote. (Also, I think this has to be the exact photo they used as inspiration for the cover of The Royal We. I just had kind of a surreal moment, realizing that.)

Poignant Look Back: The Sequel. Happy anniversary, you two crazy kids!
