Coyote vs. Acme has had a long, strange story. The script, based on a 1990 New Yorker humor piece, sees Wile E. Coyote getting so sick of Acme products blowing up on him that he essentially decides he’d better call Saul. (Except it’s Will Forte.) It was filmed in 2022 and finished by 2023, with great word-of-mouth. But Warner Bros. had been taken over by David Zaslav at that point when it merged with Discovery, and Zaslav decided the movie didn’t have an audience and shelved it to take a tax write-off, which is very unusual to do with a fully completed film — and then he announced he was going to go ahead and DELETE the whole thing. The trades were all up in arms about this, so the company changed its mind and put it on the market but then rejected everyone’s offers. Eventually, in November 2025, a distributor picked it up for $50 million — almost $30 million less than WB wanted — and now it’s coming to you. Seeing it in theaters, as I plan to this weekend, could be construed as a great middle-finger to Zaslav, the dipshit who had a FINISHED MOVIE that was TESTING WELL and decided maybe he’d just blitz it instead
