It’s nice to see that a bit of rest hasn’t dimmed Zendaya’s magic powers. Here, she’s doing her usual magic trick of wearing something big and busy and yet somehow still making it about her. I’m not really thinking about the dress; I’m focused on how self-assured and glamorous she looks in it, meaning she’s still my focus, which is exactly as it should be. A subtle difference, but a meaningful one. Objectively, yes, okay, it’s the Stanford mascot redesigned as an Easter shrubbery, but it’s also fun and frothy and a tantalizing teaser for spring. Fashion waits for no weather, besides which, thanks to the Southern Hemisphere and the equator and global warming, it’s always a warm party somewhere. Might as well create it where you’re standing, right?
