Well, of all the outcomes in the World Cup’s opening weekend, the U.S. beating Paraguay — and looking adept, too — was not high on my list. We’ll see where it goes from here, and I have to white-knuckle England’s opener against Croatia first, but that was a fun twist. The opening ceremonies took place in Mexico, Canada, and the U.S., all of them host countries, and all of them with a variety of native personnel on hand. Some choices more boring than others. And some more accurate than others.
