This movie got SO MUCH PRESS before it came out, and then it kind of flopped, as I recall, and I have barely thought of it since. Per its Wiki:

Nine is a 2009 romantic musical drama film directed and produced by Rob Marshall and written by Michael Tolkin and Anthony Minghella. The film is an adaptation of the 1982 musical of the same name, which in turn is based on Federico Fellini’s semi-autobiographical 1963 film . In addition to songs from the stage musical, all written by Maury Yeston, the film has three original songs, also written by Yeston. The ensemble principal cast consists of Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench, Fergie, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, and Sophia Loren.

Penelope got nominated for an Oscar, although, as Wiki also notes, the movie was a “a critical and commercial failure.” (She lost to Mo’Nique for Precious, which was surely correct. That’s also the year Anna Kendrick was nominated for Up in the Air.) (I also need to note that Wikipedia is concerned that the film’s “plot” section “may be too long or excessively detailed,” but the “production” section is pretty entertaining.) But this New York premiere will live in infamy, as it is the time that Nicole Kidman’s makeup artist REALLY messed up her HD powder, leading to people all over the internet being forced to explain that it would be difficult to get that much cocaine under your eyes.
