This is a beautiful cover. I first saw it because she posted some video on Instagram of her hanging out in the makeup (done by a Nigerian-born artist from Brooklyn), wondering how long she could go without taking it off, because she loved it so much. It’s just… it’s stunning portraiture, and it’s assisted by very simple, clean fonts that don’t strive too hard. Her eyes draw you in, and remain the centerpiece — Essence finding her essence, as it were. It’s wonderful. I don’t have anything quippy to say. I guess… MAYBE the way it’s cropped makes her look like she’s wearing a collar, and that’s not ideal? But I’m not even looking at her neck. I noticed that in passing on my tenth time looking at this, which is another sign that this cover is doing its job.
