Picture it: St. Tropez, 1971. The groom? 27 year-old Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. The bride? His 26 year-old  girlfriend, the glamorous jet-setting socialite Bianca Perez-Mora Macias, who was four months pregnant at the time. The wedding? Very intense because the paparazzi got wind of it, and so did the public, plus everyone apparently got VERY drunk at the reception, as one would have expected for a Rolling Stones wedding in the south of France in the 70s. The gown? Yves St Laurent, and a chicer decision there was not, in 1971.

The marriage? Rocky. It lasted seven years but then Mick cheated on Bianca with Jerry Hall and that was that. Mick also sprung a pre-nup, which apparently was somewhat unusual in 1971, on poor Bianca on the very morning of her wedding and she was NOT happy about it, surely in part because it gave her nothing. He probably had his money on mind in part because at the time he was in France because he was trying to get out of paying British taxes and the Stones were in a mess with regards to their early publishing rights. (That article is fascinating, by the way, and opens with a very intense correction.) (This is also where I once again recommend Keith Richards’s autobiography,¬†Life, which is one of the best ones I’ve ever read. It is juicy and compelling.)

Is there video of these blessed nuptials? Reader, there is:

French law dictates that public building are open to anyone, the press had free reign to cover this wedding however they saw fit, and it got INTENSE. As are some of the outfits people wore to this event. Let’s take a look.

I researched this wedding thanks to help from this post at Over the Moon, and this piece at The Rake, both of which are very interesting and worth your time. For further juicy reading, this piece at Page Six is deeply gossipy, and seemingly bit misinformed (it repeats the rumor that Keith wore a Nazi uniform to the wedding, but you can see in pics that he did not [ALTHOUGH he may be wearing one in the video? It’s up in the air. Don’t do that!]). Enjoy!
