This gala was SO well attended that it's giving the Met a run for its money – which probably makes sense, because it's less and less important to suck up to Anna Wintour, but will likely always be wise to suck up to the Academy. We have four posts today that'll cover this, beginning with a sampling of what I decided were everything mentioned in the headline: wacky, weird, wild, and whaaaaat. Not all of those are meant as derogatory, but, you know... some definitely are.
Also, if you're keeping score, this event used to look like people were being snapped in a parking garage, which is doubly curious because the museum does not have one unless they borrow the one from the Getty. So the Academy started hanging up curtains to try and make it have ambiance. This year, though, they went with a truly ugly filmy beige curtain, and appeared to stack the photographers on curved risers, which would explain why some photos were from a high angle and others were so far off to the side that you can see the end of the curtain. Others had part of a person blocking some corners of the picture. I've managed not to need most of those, but I did leave one in so you can enjoy. This should not be so hard, pals.
