Amazon’s reboot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith was supposed to star Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, but she left the project due to what Wikipedia calls “creative differences” with Donald Glover. I wonder if it was a lack of chemistry, or if they just didn’t get along…? Regardless, they hired Maya Erskine of Pen15, and beginning Feb. 2 you can beam it into your eyeballs. What that summary (and this premiere) does NOT include is that the show also features Parker Posey, John Turturro, Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, Alexander Skarsgard, Sarah Paulson, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, and Billy “The Rocketeer” Campbell. Presumably some of those are in a deeply supporting capacity maybe even the villain of the week, but that’s quite a list and the prospect of those first seven names will be enough to get me to try it.
Oh yeah, the outfits. Konkle’s keyhole being the shape OF a keyhole is amusing. Donald Glover looks good, but also curmudgeonly. Like a very RICH curmudgeon who coordinates his lounging outfits as carefully as he would for a gala, and only converses with the neighbors through the mic on his Ring doorbell. He does not decorate for Halloween, kids, so don’t even try, but he WILL donate money to put his name on a hospital building. But if they make the parking lot stupid, you will HEAR IT.
