Fug or Fab: Michelle Dockery

This felt a bit like Nicole Kidman to me when I first saw it:

Then I read that it’s L’Wren Scott, a designer Nicole frequently wears, so that vibe makes sense. It’s a cool idea and a striking look, and it’s definitely grown on me, but it also looks like wallpaper shot through with funereal wicker. Would you have preferred a different pattern, or perhaps bright solid, to play off the black? I think I’d have enjoyed a hotter lipstick on her — maybe more of an orange-red. Or bright yellow to reflect her award. No. Can you imagine? We’d faint. The Dowager Countess would have Lady Mary sent to an asylum. And Big Bird would go into hiding, for fear of a new predator devouring his sunny kind. Luckily, there are ways to love this that don’t involve chasing off a beloved children’s icon.
