So, as you probably know, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale opens up to non-card holders today, and goes through August 9th. Instagrammers and style bloggers tend to go hard on this sale, because they make a lot of money on commission from it since it’s such a big Shopping Holiday. (AdWeek has a whole piece about this phenomenon, and it’s fascinating, even just from a logistical perspective.) I have no issue with that — I am, after all, writing this post! — but my theory from an editorial standpoint is that readers sort of max out on hearing about it before the sale even opens up to those of us who don’t have the Nordstorm card (which I do not).  So I’m gonna cut to the chase: I went through all the handbags that are included in the sale and picked the ones I liked the best. You might want a new bag, and some of these are really good, plus I basically just love purses. (They’ve also got some decent luggage on sale, FYI. Leaving aside my inability to bypass the handbags, my personal feeling about the Anniversary sale is that it’s a good time to buy stuff you sincerely need anyway, like beauty products you actually use regularly, plus boring stuff like socks and bras, and then potentially a practical one-off purchase like a suitcase, where the discount can actually be fairly substantial for a one-time necessity. This makes me feel like an old person, being like, “why not save some money on a supportive brassiere, honey?!?” but…well, I AM that old person. An old person who buys a lot of bags.)

ANYWAY, BEHOLD:

Also: FYI, if the bag you want claims to be sold out now, check back later. Nordstorm holds stock back during Early Access and stuff will pop up against over the course of the next couple of weeks. Also part two, as ever: This post was not sponsored by Nordstrom, I just felt like writing it. Having said that, GFY uses affiliate links where available, which means we get a tiny bonus if you get yourself something new. I can assure you that all bags were personally chosen by me while I sat around drinking iced tea and watching Big Brother.
