I’ll fully admit that this post was inspired by Meghan Markle’s recent deployment of the white oversized button-down shirt. Hers is called — and this is great — “the Husband” and it’s by Misha Nonoo, which makes sense as I once saw Meghan at that fashion show. It’s not insanely exorbitantly-priced, but it is of course now nearly sold out. And thank god they don’t have my size because I would have bought one, because I am OBSESSED with the perfect white button-down shirt. My current favorite — and it is really REALLY good — is this classic J.Crew one. It is an EXCELLENT plain white button-down. (And J.Crew Factory has a similar one; so similar that I actually went into my closet to check which one I actually owned.)

Anyway, here’s a BUNCH of possibly good white button-down tops. In putting this post together, I learned that the white oxford shirt is a CLASSIC item in terms of Designers Trying to Reinvent the Wheel (especially in plus sizes). Like, dudes: Concentrate on making a really good white button-down shirt. We don’t need our forearms to have little fabric mohawks.

I included a variety of sizes (all these shirts go up to at least a 16, although some sizes may be sold out by the time you read this), but I specifically want to throw the comments open to you ladies whose bosoms are more prodigious than mine. I know the issue of button-downs gaping at the bust line is a real pain in the ass, and I’m confident that everyone would love to hear if you’ve found a shirt that doesn’t do that. My sources tell me that our friends at Talbots are pretty good on that front (and indeed there are some Talbots options above).

(As ever, if the widget doesn’t appear, just refresh and that should fix it; while I’m talking about technical issues, we know that the mobile site is currently broken and we’re working on it! This server migration is causing me and everyone else at GFY HQ to both eat and spend our feelings.)

As a general housekeeping note: This is not a sponsored post. Our oxford shirt allegiances are ours alone. Like most websites, GFY uses affiliate links where available, which means we get a tiny bonus if you click through. I can assure you that all these shirts were personally chosen by me while I sat around drinking fizzy water and watching The Real Housewives of Dallas.
