Apologies for this post not coming out until today; I needed time to luxuriate in Alysa Liu’s absolute spectacular gold medal win in the women’s figure skating at the 2026 Olympics as long as possible before turning to my work! (The live chat for this one was EXTREMELY FUN.) As I said over at Drinks With Broads, the vibes at this women’s event were immaculate — the polar opposite of the vibes in 2022, which, if you remember, was a full shitshow. There was laughing! There was hugging! There was redemption in the free skate! There was another Dune routine — and, if you watched the earlier groups and/or the team events, there was a women skating to Jaws in a costume that had a bite taken out of it. It was fun — and women’s figure-skating hasn’t been fun for a long time. Alysa Liu, you are a DELIGHT. Kaori Sakamoto, you are a DELIGHT. Ami Nakai, you are a DELIGHT. Let’s delight in everyone’s costumes; this time, I’ve covered the top ten finishers, plus the Americans. One final toe pick for the road!
