This is the premiere of Ripley, a stylized, eight-episode black-and-white Netflix adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Which, of course, became the movie that made people as obsessed with Jude Law as Tom Ripley was. Andrew Scott slips into Matt Damon’s grifter shoes, and Dakota Fanning takes the Gwyneth Paltrow part (Johnny Flynn, your Dickie Greenleaf, didn’t come). Da’Vine Joy is just there being supportive, or maybe curious, but DAMN, supportive curiosity looks good on her.
