Young Woman and the Sea is about Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel, which she did in 1926 (two years off winning Olympic Gold). It was originally to star Lily James, and per Wikipedia, “for unknown reasons, the film will not be shown theatrically in Canada.” Okay then! In fact, this wasn’t going to get a theatrical release at ALL until somebody at Disney realized it might be synergistic with the Olympics this summer, although… wouldn’t you want to come out a little later to take advantage of that? Nobody asks me. The point is, Daisy Ridley looks great, and I hope this movie does well for her.
