Whatever Atelier Jolie is or isn’t — no one ever seemed certain — it’s definitely not the author of this dress. That would be Givenchy, which is ironic given that Couture is the first fictional film to shoot inside Chanel’s showroom and atelier. I wonder what happened behind the scenes that they’re not the ones dressing Angie. That said, the new Givenchy, which I think needed a win, did nicely here. This is one of the effective uses of illusion netting; the metallics are carefully placed so that you’re typically looking at them rather than whatever is under it. I also wish we could flip the ends here and get Angie back to brown — I know she’s a natural blond but the darker hair suits her so well — and then lighten up the clodhoppers, which are a bummer of an ending to a gown that’s striving for “ethereal.”
