Well Re-Played, Kate Middleton

well-played

Well, it’s not the exact same outfit she wore to the last Wimbledon. But it IS the same one she wore on the EXACT SAME DAY last year, when they were on Prince Edward Island. Is she just screwing with us now?

I realize that they are BFDs and the future king and queen and all, but really? They were allowed to enter the stands during play? Or was Federer just hitting some practice balls? I just do not like breeches of tennis etiquette: I’m looking at all a youse who grunt when you hit the ball! Sorry, yes, cute dress.

The clutch. OH, THE CLUTCH. Love the whole thing.

Also I need everyone to notice that in picture 2, when Kate is laughing, Wills has his tongue sticking out between his teeth. Adorable. I love them together. They are so beautiful and glamorous.

It was so funny watching Wimbledon state-side yesterday.

I think they showed Kate Middleton applauding more than they showed the actual players in the Federer and Murray matches. lol.

At one point they actually showed her clapping in slo-mo as if we needed to see every nuance as her hair flowed gently in the breeze as she applauded .

It was ridiculous, hilarious, and made me wary of our sometimes outsized admiration of her even in the U.S.

    Beware the cult of personality.

At least Kate handles all the attention well. She seems pretty level-headed with no out-sized ego.

I’ve never heard of the cult of personality. Looked it up on wikipedia. Very interesting. BTW, I’m tired of people talking about her recycling dresses. Stars should recycle. Not recycling is wasteful and a bit disrespectful to “normal” people.

I find it so extremely refreshing that she doesn’t ditch an outfit after wearing it once. She’s frugal and re-wears her favorite heels all the time. She’s a “normal” person, despite being a princess. I heart her.

      Kate is lovely.

I absolutely adore her. I could so totally envision her pushing up her sleeves, getting right in there with the people to protect the city as needed and rallying them by saying “All right, then, on with it now!” in a no-fuss WWII-type London-is-being-bombed scenario. She’d give Wills a kiss, Harry a tousle on his bloody orange noggin, tell her boys to do it for Mother England, God and the people and send them off to their military duty while she handled things back at home like the champ she is. This is one American who’s Team Kate 100%.

Can we put the baby rumors to bed for a while? This dress would show off the slightest bump, and her tummy is flat, flat, flat. Also? Girlfriend needs to eat a sandwich. She’s lovely but too skinny.

Her mother is very thin/dainty/thin as is Pippa…granted Pippa is more athletic so she has more muscle….. I think her frame is completely normal for her…. Telling her to eat is as bad as people telling me to stop eating.

I would love it if we could stop talking about her weight. She’s been this size for a long time; even if she hadn’t, it’s not our business. Thanks.

Thank you! She is on the taller side and just doesn’t have hips (it’s called genetics). It makes for a very narrow frame but it’s totally healthy. Can we please put telling people to eat or not to eat to bed, already?

OK, the dress is really cute, repeat or not, and is appropriate for the occasion.

I must say, I did not love the ‘People’s’ princess all that much (or the rest of the royal family), but this new generation is certainly bringing some much needed like and admiration to the Windsors – and Kate Windsor (can I call her that?) is what finally turned the tides.

I can only assume from the fact that Kate keeps wearing long sleeves that unlike in the USA, England is not hotter than the surface of the sun right now.

We’ve been having one of the coldest and wettest summers in something like 50 years. Give me some heat over this any day!

Our summer here in Southern Ontario has been sweltering – typically hot and humid (it normally is, but this is getting ridiculous). I ran a 3.5K race the other night in 42 C…awful. Can I have some of your cold and wet English weather? No, really. :) I had to get up at 5am to run today – and even then it was sticky and humid.

Who is that lady behind Kate in the periwinkle dress and white jacket? I’ve seen her in several pictures. A lady in waiting?

I think she’s the wife of the man to William’s left, an All England Club biggie.

Thanks! At first I thought it was Camilla and that she’d finally changed her weird hair.

I really like that she re-wore this dress, as I like it on her. I have wearablity-envy, as the knit and flirty hem gives Her Sleekness nice curves. It’s also playfully sporty, which seems kind of “her”.

I’d like a closer look at that watercolor-y dress behind her.

Dear Jessica – I realize you have been pretty busy, what with writing for an awesomely entertaining daily blog and also writing excellent books and living your life and whatnot, but in your spare time, I wish you would write that 1930s English houseparty thingie. I was looking at Kate’s dress and thinking it looked like something Daisy Buchanan wore, or would wear, in The Great Gatsby, but said dress would still look really cute being bumped up a decade and moved across the ocean.

Yes please I agree, can we have a Novel of English Romantical Problems? And have you read Daisy Ashford? I think you might like it, if you’ve not already.

I live in fear that I’ll someday be in the presence of Duchess Kate and be tackled by her bodyguards for involuntarily (I swear) petting her hair.

Maybe it’s just the angle, but it looks better this time around. She looks less thin and there’s more shape around the mid section. Comparing last year’s photo, the front looks unnaturally flat, like how dresses look on a hanger, but in a bad way.

    • Andrea

I agree. Seems like she’s filled out a bit more, which is heartening. Plus, it shows off more curves. There’s one picture of her going up some stairs and made this straight woman go, “She’s giving Pippa a run for her money in the ass department.” *nods appreciatively as I know I’ll never have a derriere that looks that good no matter how hard I work at it*

I do remember this dress! Because I LOVED IT WITH ALL MY HEART the first time I saw it. The best part watching the Murray match was finding out the roof was only closed enough to shelter the Royal Box. Haha. Everyone else, including the players, can just get wet!

I saw the slo-mo clap, which I thought was hilarious too. I didn’t notice them focusing on Kate any more than they did on Murray’s mom or the girlfriend, but I missed the Federer match, maybe they were over it by the time they got to Andy’s.

I can’t imagine what it would be like for people to know that I wore the same dress on the same day last year. That’s crazy.

I only know this because I noticed the date on the post when I first wrote about it, and they were both on the 4th of July; I am not that insane.

She is just made of awesome. I love this outfit from head to toe.

It is a great dress and very appropriate for the setting.
My only issue is that when normal people wear the same dress more then once it’s called getting dressed but when she does its this revolutionary new thing that no one has ever heard of before. I know she is photographed at all these things and scrutinized to death but can we not be quite so proud of her for getting dressed? (Not directed at the people here, on this site, which I love, just at the world at large.)

I suppose it would be asking too much that she please not wear the exact same outfit in the exact same way each and every time until we have documented proof that she’s worn it until it is threadbare. A different shoe, or perhaps some different jewellery, or a different hairstyle all go a long way to making the piece look fresh.

      • Sarie
        0

I agree. Change it up a little. The other problem is that she has very distinctive pieces that are not easy to transform. you can’t really change the look of that dress or make it look fresh with accessories. She needs some basic wardrobe fundamentals.

Is that Camilla in the 3rd picture behind Kate? Because if it’s not, Camilla should totally wear her hair that way.

Thank goodness I’m not the only one who thought it was Camilla at first! And I agree, Camilla should switch to this hairstyle stat.

NOO00ooo. I fricken hate those sailor collars. Hate. HATE! They remind me of creepy dolls from my grandparents’ house. But if I compose myself and mentally remove the collar, then the rest of the dress is quite cute.

Can’t wait til the reign of Wintour is over and chaos reigns.

If it were me, that would actually be a new copy of the same dress. But only because I’d spilled coffee on it the first time I wore it, but loved it so much that I got another one right away.

Somehow I don’t think she spills coffee, or anything else for that matter…
