Certain celebs have certain sartorial quirks. Katy Perry, for example, often dresses like slightly unhinged candy. Janelle Monae almost always sticks to the same color palette, and displays an admirable tendency to go for a cape. And Andra Day generally goes retro:
Like Janelle’s, Andra’s is a habit that often pays off huge dividends, and this is one of those times. Whenever I see her, I find myself thinking, “I want to go to that party.” This dress has a high degree of difficulty — the flowered hip layer could easily feel like a bedazzled napkins that she accidentally tucked into her waistband — but it’s just glamorous and unusual on her. Huge bonus points for nailing her shoe choice — these are Marchesa — as well. I’ll follow them wherever they may go, too.
