Unfug It Up: Rose Byrne

unfug-it-up

The good news: She looks so much more chipper in front of the camera lately! She has tremendously wonderful hair! She’s still dating Bobby Cannavale and this pleases me, because if they decide to have kids, those children will have amazing eyebrows and that, my friends, is what’s really important in this mixed up crazy world.

The bad news: I think I like this print better on Gwyneth. This dress is right there on the edge of being super cute, I think — but it’s got one too many tulle-filled intermissions. She almost looks like she got into a knife fight with her seamstress. If she lost a few of them — or lost the sleeves entirely? — we might be cooking with gas. Light me up with your thoughts.

On both of them, I like the print, but would like just one piece of it to be a print–maybe a black top or skirt. Also, on Rose, is that a sheer midriff, because crop tops–no. Exceptions: bathing suits and picnics.

It would look great without any of the sheer (I am so over sheer). I like the high collar at the neck too.

I agree. Remove all the sheer and put the pieces together and I think it would be really cute.

It looks like the seamstress said, “Don’t worry–we’ll just pul all the pieces on you and then hold them together with this sheer fabric. It’ll read ‘edgy’! I promise!” That is incorrect. It reads “unfinished.”

cut off the sheer from the bottom of the skirt, and end the sleeves at the 3/4 length where the random strip of sheer is located, and i think we’re in business? i’ll tolerate the midriff in this case, as it breaks up the print…though i’m not certain we couldn’t have achieved the same result with a belt.

      WORD.
Exactly the suggestions I would give.
And although I like the print in general I think it’s a bit too dark for her.

I think if you just eliminate the sheer swath through the middle (on the sleeves and at the midriff) this could be really good. I’d also be ok with shortening or even eliminating the sleeves. I do really love that print, though.

It’s too much work to unfug it….just change the whole outfit.

      OK…here’s why…

Get rid of the sheer, cover the belly, lose the sleeves, keep the ballet neck cut, get rid of that crazy piece of collar ( which needs to leave with the sheer anyway)… different shoes….
Basically….. grab that great material and make a completely different dress.

Get rid of anything sheer and lower the neckline. Pretty print.

Lose all the sheer, add a belt, trim the sleeves to 3/4, and lose the high neckline so the focus is on her pretty face. I feel like I’m drowning in fabric just looking at her. It’s a pretty pattern but it’s also quite… aggressive.

(I know this is not what happened, but…) Those sheer inserts makes it look like she had a garment that was petite and she had to lengthen it throughout.

The whole look would be improved by some arm candy…

ITA! I LOVE Bobby Canavale, and could not believe that he won’t be on Nurse Jackie anymore, I mean, how do you give them one hot bedroom scene, a smattering of tongue action, and then say, “okay, folks – that’s a wrap”! I mean, seriously???

Love Rose’s hair too, the dress, not so much – she can do and has done much better.

Is it my imagination, or is the bottom half covered in the sheer fabric? Get rid of all the sheer. (Sheer must die!) The print is great, though. Yes on what most have said: 3/4 or shorter sleeves, lower neckline, belt not sheer panel.

Something about this makes me think of an off-brand Barbie — the proportions are all wrong, and the way she’s standing looks as though she is not fully articulated.

I’m with Claire1, great fabric, needs to be made into a different dress entirely. Call the seamstress and start over!

And I’ll add, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale need to get married and make babies, because those kids will be incredibly beautiful. Also, think of the hair!

Ugh! Just burn this whole horrible mess (is this Stella striking again?) Hate, hate that print. I hated it on GOOP, and I hate it on Rose; the sheerness really ups the ugly ante.

I like the print, but it doesn’t need anything added to it! I would get rid of the mock turtleneck, every piece of illusion netting and the peekaboo belly! And, even though I love the shoes, this dress calls for yellow or burgundy stilettos! Her face & hair look great, though!

I don’t know how it’s possible that this has more “muchness” than Goop’s.

I hate the print. It looks like an extreme, microscope -close-up of bacteria in a textbook, to which the editor added shocking color so that you wouldn’t fall asleep in class.
Not all florals were created equal.

hate the sheer, don’t much care for the print, and as much as I love a sleeve, these ones aren’t working. and yeah, it looks like they ran out of fabric and Tim just said to make it work.
