I don’t know what is going on with Kate’s outfit, but I feel confident that we can fix it.
YES. all my dresses are this exact cut because it is A) easy B) cool and C) sandwich-friendly, but the trick is to go as short as the legs/age cohort will decently allow.
I think the dress needs to be belted (something in a nice dark brown and thin) and shortened. Also it looks terrible with those clunky boots.
As a native Utahn, I feel compelled to note: fur vests and mock turtlenecks are migratory creatures which nest in Park City only during mid-January of each year.
So, so true. Also weird hats. Whats up with all the weird hats. They make them with normal sized brims people.
eesh no. It looks like a cross between my auntie’s house dresses and a velour top my mom used to have.
Maybe if the boots were taller. I guess belting it would help.
Long sleeves? That would improve it by 100, for me.
I think it’s a bad case of static cling and too light fabric for a boots and tights look, so I don’t think belting it would solve anything. Just looking at the pictures makes me shudder. The sack shape might work better if the lower part of the dress did not look like it got stuck to the tights and a better drape would fix a lot.
Is Radha Mitchell just an alternate personality for Naomi Watts like Sasha Fierce is for Beyonce? The similarity is freakishly mind-boggling.
What is that hanging flappy thing in the front? Is it there to add interest? Because I’m not sure interest is what it’s adding.
That dress would be better as a tunic, especially with those clunky boots. Or if it must be that length, it should have a belt and a fuller skirt (plus a dousing with static guard).
That fur vest looks like someone skinned an ewok.
radha shouldn’t have just thrown that fur vest over whatever she already had on, but it DOES make her outfit look more pulled-together, so in a pinch. it doesn’t look awful. i think she coulda done something with her hair, though.
kate — i wouldn’t change anything! i love that entire look. seriously. but i WOULD like to remove that drapey tie thing in front.
While it would definitely be cuter if it were super-short with boots that fit her calves, I have to wonder if this is Bosworth’s answer to all the comments on how thin she is.
I like both outfits very much, especially the boots. Both pairs of boots are very attractive. I love the print on Kate’s dress – kind of a blend of modern urban and old master oil painting. I wish she had posed without the crossed legs; dress+tights+boots tends to be very flattering to legs and these photos do not take advantage of that effect.
Demerit: the striped T-shirt. Cheapens the look and the photos.
I saw Kate’s dress on a different website and my first though was it looked like mold. It’s a bit better in this lighting, but still something is off. That fur vest looks like she just removed it from a rabbit’s body. I don’t care if it’s fake, it looks too real.
Uh, I like it and don’t think it looks bad at all. Maybe I’m feverish…
Get rid of the extra fabric that is on top hanging down below the waist. Take one of the colors in the dress (orange perhaps), and add some accessories that play with that color — belt, bracelet, shoes instead of boots.
Bosworth’s get-up would improve instantly if she’d ditch that pose-y lips together smile for once and show some teeth, and ditch the pose-y pelvis-out swayback nonsense (which she even affected for a Sundance ‘portrait’ with her man Polish … sheesh).
What’s throwing the porportions off is her weight. Her naturally narrow hips are so small that the skirt is billowing around them, same problem with the boots and her legs. A belt won’t help, it’ll just emphasize that her head is wider than her hips.
But nothing could be done with that ugly print, anyway. If you’re at Sundance in winter, best to burn it for warmth.
I have an incomprehensible hatred for Kate Bosworth, no matter what she wears… but this dress is completely hideous, and doesn’t do her tiny little frame justice.
Wasn’t Radha Mitchell once in an awesomely terrible mini-series about a girl who got caught up in a cult and then fell in love with a priest and had sex with him in a cave? If I could (a) remember the name of that movie and (b) it was on DVD, I would SO TOTALLY watch that again.
Guessing you mean this? Sounds fantastic/terrible!
The Chosen (1998) – TV movie
The Chosen is a romantic thriller of two men caught in a deadly struggle for the love and soul of a young woman: One man is a charismatic cult leader, the other a troubled preist. In this fatal love triangle, good confronts evil, and the opposing forces divide a small rural town
Do not… mention.. sandwiches.
I mentioned sandwiches once, but I think I got away with it.
Art-school smocks cannot be unfugged. You have to just take it off and start over.
Mitchell looks terrific. I hate her outfit, too, but jeezum crow she’s gorgeous, and it’s great to see a beautiful actress who appears to be aging naturally.
I really don’t like these ‘informal’ Sundance wall photo shoots. It’s like they tried to make everything so casual, that it ended up being very TRY HARD. And its all very pelvis-y.
Gutless caftan or high-art surgical smock. With boots. I’m with Bottle Ginger, burn it for warmth, but spare the boots.
Because la Bosworth is so fricken tiny, I’m not sure a belt can do the trick. It would still be oversized and boxy looking, but possibly less drafty? Seriously, the static might be functional here to trap in body heat.
I have no idea who Radha is and the fur vest look is not my deal. Ever. But, I have to hand it to her with the attitude, specifically in the first of her pictures: “Yeah, I’m wearing a fur vest. What of it?!” So, I think she pulls it off.
If you had just shown me the 2nd picture, I would’ve said “Well Played, Kate”!
I would cover that five-head with bangs.
I think Radha looks terrific (I won’t even bother with Kate–can’t be unfugged). I even like the fur vest, but yes, lose the striped tee.
Aw, I love the print, but the cut is doing it no favors. It looks like a very light, soft fabric, which is clinging to her dark stockings in billows. It’s too flowing and shapeless, and with a belt, it would be just bunched up in the middle and still shapeless on her north and south. Plus, quilted gum boots?
The fabric wants to be a blouse. It needs to be a blouse.
