I gather — from the extremely accurate title — that this is the story of Ford’s efforts to beat Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. The trailer initially felt like pretty disposable big dumb summer fun, but it’s coming out now, so maybe it’s more prestige than that? Originally it was meant to star Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and I might have enjoyed that showdown actually, but I suspect Christian Bale and Matt Damon will slide a little less conspicuously into it. Maybe they are why it’s prestige.
