SAG Awards Adorably Played, Sally Field and Daniel Day-Lewis

well-played

I love how much these two clearly love each other. And I really love how hot and charming Daniel Day-Lewis is when he isn’t in full Method-actor mode as a cranky murderous cobbler or whatever. I forgot how good looking he is. Also: this is the place where I agitate for a Room With a View photo reunion at one of these things. Helena Bonham Carter is invited for Les Mis, DDL is obviously going to pop in to pick up his Best Actor award. Maggie Smith will be invited (but not attend) for Downton Abbey or Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Housing Everyone Who’s Ever Been In a British Movie. WE JUST NEED JULIAN SANDS. SOMEONE GET ME JULIAN SANDS.

And please lasso Rupert Graves from the set of Sherlock. You can’t hold a RWAV reunion without Freddy Honeychurch.

OMG yes… Freddie Honeychurch is totally yummy. Unfortunately, Julian Sands is looking… less good these days.

Was just coming here to say the same. Sweet darling Freddy with his floppy, floppy hair, playing the piano and saying things like, “I think George Emerson is simply ripping!” Oh, how I love him. I was so pleased to watch Sherlock and find that he is just as handsome as ever.

I didn’t think Julian Sands looked so bad in Dragon Tattoo. People are gonna age.

I think they look ok, not cute or anything.

But my judgement might be colored by how pathetic Sally Field appeared on her appearance on the Colbert Report. She sounded so sad saying that no-one invites her to parties in Hollywood. I wanted to be her friend who would take her aside and say, let’s not say things like that out in public, even if they are true. You can discuss them with me as a friend but not to the entire world who doesn’t know you. Anyone else catch?

I watched the interview, but I thought she was teasing. Her facial expression is just so earnest. I’m not sure if it is her eyes or what. She is endearing and I really like her dress.

I love him. Unreservedly. He will some day be my cabana boy, and if it means that Sally Field comes with him, all the more fun. But oh yes. He will be mine.

He could even bring his wife, but then she might accidentally fall into the pool somehow. *whistles innocently*

Wait. Were we discussing fashion? Yes. Sally looks faboo in that color, and she’s so damn cute.

Thanks for these pics. They are great! Sally looks wonderful and genuinely happy.

I want their next movie to be a road movie. A kind of homage to Smoky and the Bandit.

Anyway, LOVE the purple on her. And I might need to own that red number.

Sally looks great, and I wish DDL would smile more frequently – looks adorable (though some teeth bleaching could be in order). I HEART Sally – she can do TV, movies, theatre – she is America’s Judi Dench! (except 20 years younger) I am not bringing up Helen Mirren for comparison here (who also does everything) because that moma is HOT, and Sally is cute.

DDL is amazing. No one has ever been hotter than he was in Last of the Mohicans. I saw that movie with my mother and we both had to peel ourselves off the floor. He was also pretty beautiful in Age of Innocence. Hard to imagine he was also Bill the Butcher. Again, simply amazing.

Have you seen “My Beautiful Laundrette” yet? It opened at the same time as “A Room With a View” and he coudn’t have played a different character. He’s just… *sigh* Yeah.

I always need a box of tissues when watching Last of The Mohicans because I drool and I cry.

I have never thought DDL was that hot, at least not until I saw him in the coat with the scarf around his neck. My mind, it is blown.

And I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I thought Sally Field was a tad miscast as Mary Todd. I’m happy to see her working, though, and hope this is a springboard to more good parts for her.

I implore you to watch “Last of the Mohicans.” His body, his face, his intensity. Ok, I have to go watch it now…

OMG, yes. What was that line? “I will find you” or something similarly intense when he was saying goodbye to Madeleine Stowe? Wow. And he found her, just like you knew he would. Because who wouldn’t trust that guy?

Sorry. Yes, Sally’s dress is lovely.

I love Daniel Day-Lewis, but I am scared of him. I prefer to worship from afar.

I think Sally Field’s attractiveness is way under-appreciated. The woman has looked good HER ENTIRE LIFE, I loved watching Gidget and Flying Nun reruns, I did not like Brothers and Sisters but I thought she looked and was awesome. She is 66 years old and she is beautiful. I hope I can age a fraction as well as she has. She is the quintessential American Girl Next Door, I love her unreservedly.

This is the woman who gave the “You like me!” Oscar speech. She obviously likes a little public validation from her peers–as do we all–but she simply puts it out there. Really out there.

Poor Charlotte! Love the idea of a Room With a View reunion photo. And DDL is gorgeous but it’s almost creepy how completely he becomes a character, like he’s actually an alien life form inhabiting someone else’s being. Talent.

“it’s almost creepy how completely he becomes a character, like he’s actually an alien life form inhabiting someone else’s being. Talent.”

This. Some actors are always actors- Tom Cruise is ALWAYS Tom Cruise playing a role. But DDL is always the character.

      • Heather
        0

That is because, I would argue, DDL is a very talented actor, and Tom Cruise is… not.

Poor Sally. I identify with her insecurities and her need for___________. But she also needs to apply her fantastic acting skills to herself and STOP vocalizing them!
Act confident, secure, aloof,, even when you aren’t on a pharmaceutical commercial. (Rant over).
She looks fantastic and that dress/color/hair is very flattering. I’m happy she is getting good roles and the attention she craves. We all want it it a little bit.

DDL knicked my leg with the bike he was speeding by me on as we were both getting on the Brooklyn Bridge. He was filming The Age of Innocence in my neighborhood and I was already cranky because flunkies with walkie-talkies kept me from walking down my street one night as I was carrying very heavy grocery bags. At the bridge, I yelled “hey!”, DDL turned his head, I recognized him, and he sped off. HE KNOWS HOW TO WORK IT. Apologies are for mere mortals. Why bother when you can flash your mischevious sexiness and have all be forgiven.

I know she’s a tiny person but she looks very wee in the full length picture of her and her son. DDL is a delight; I look forward to hearing his oscars speech….for it’s sure to be him and well deserved.

He gives wonderful speeches, doesn’t he? The line about an actor murdering Lincoln and other actors bringing him back had me howling. I wish he’d give Annie Hathaway a few pointers on how to give an awards show speech without making the audience want to punch you.

What I find most amazing about casting Sally Field in the role is that Hollywood has actually hired an actress to play someone YOUNGER than herself! While Mary Todd Lincoln was 10 years younger than her husband, Sally is 11 years older than Daniel Day Lewis (although she doesn’t look it. ) By the usual Hollywood logic, the leading actor can be 86 years old, but his wife must be played by someone no older than Hailee Steinfeld.

Jodi: That’s what I’ve been telling everyone! She was about 20 years older than Mary Todd Lincoln actually was at that time. I admit it bothered me even though Sally DOES look 20 years younger than she really is.

She looks smashing in the purple dress. The color reminds me of Sarah Hyland’s, but I think Sally’s dress fits her so much better than Sarah’s fits her, and she looks so comfortable and relaxed in it.

My drool-worthy DDL movie is The Unbearable Lightness of Being. OMG. SO SEXY…. adk;aizlkjgasdd;f
Sorry, the drool on my keyboard must’ve messed up the keys.

DDL!!!! Thanks for the link over to Time, great article. But you guys, no one mentions Age of Innocence, the Edith Wharton novel, Scorcese made as a tribute to his father and impressionism. It is so romantic, DDL is divine, superseding Mr. Darcy and that is hard to do. The costumes, manners, characterizations. Give it a look. It’s on my top 10.

…………and how CREEPY (but profoundly pitiable) was he in There Will Be Blood?

    Just sayin’.

    Love ‘em both.

Both adorable. But I found it interesting casting that Sally is playing a person who was 20 years younger than Sally is now. Mary Todd Lincoln was 9 years younger than Abe, who was about DDL’s age when he died. Congrats to Sally for looking so youthful!

Is anyone else kind of upset Anne Hathaway has a lock on all the Supporting Actress awards. Sally Field was amazing in Lincoln. The Hath is winning awards for singing a song that any competent actress and singer look amazing for doing. Just doesn’t seem fair.

As for DDL – loved him since RWAV. I wish he’d appear in public this way more often.

I know this post was all about ‘shipping Mary + Abe 4eva! But I have come here to say: Daniel Day-Lewis’s wife is an amazing woman. Rebecca Miller, daughter of playwright Arthur Miller, and a screenwriter and director herself, responsible for the Private Lives of Pippa Lee. I luv that movie so much. Blake Lively was bearable in it, Keanu was surprisingly effective, and Robin Wright was so luminous and present and convincing.

Also, I, in my infinite knowledge of their intimate life, believe DDL and Rebecca’s relationship is on sound footing. So don’t bust it up, y’all!

So up for a RWAV reunion. Did you know that Merchant/Ivory originally wanted DDL for the George role, but he told them he’d rather play Cecil Vyse? What a guy. No one can ever say that he’s not totally interesting.

And yes, he and Fields are beyond adorable together, which makes me doubly enraged that she’s going to be cheated out of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar by that relentless gaping maw of insecurity and falseness (also known as AnnE Hathaway). Ptui.
